A Day in the Life...

Thank you Jon for getting this meme up and going, I have read some great stuff and felt like I must partake.
---------------------------------

What do you do?
Chief Operations and Technology Officer (Pastor) for Fellowship Church.  FC is one of the largest and fastest growing churches in America. Nearly 20,000 in weekend attendance across 3 campuses, and a fourth coming in a few weeks. In a nutshell I do 3 things. 1) Set direction [road map] 2) Lead people 3) Motivate and encourage.

What are the challenges?
Planning and organizing [road map] in a church/organization that is always changing, creating and inventing.

How do you overcome them?
Truly leaning on my personal relationship with Christ. Without it, I would go nuts.

What is a typical day like?
Up when my 3 year old daughter gets up. Play with her for a while, spend some quality time reading the Bible then off to the office my 9:00 am. Very active on the drive in on the Blackberry (phone and email) and listening to the iPod in the background. A typical day consists of a minimum of 4 meetings and a lot of interacting with my management team and typically spend less that 30% of my time in my office. Email is always going, averaging about 60 plus work related emails daily. Out of the office by 5:30-6:00 and very active on the drive home on the Blackberry. Spend evening with family and normally work an additional hour or two when the kids go to sleep.

How do you manage information?
Paper gets processed immediately. (normally trashed or delegated) Email is huge via Outlook or the Blackberry. I am a huge Relater, so personal interaction is very important to me. I normally try to meet face to face as much as possible and manage information in person when possible. Personal information is managed via Gmail, music is managed via a 40 gig iPod, and the Blackberry is the greatest tool that I own. I must give props to my assistant Amy, she is the dream assistant and makes managing information very easy for me!

What are you favorite 3 to 5 books?
The Bible- Nehemiah
The Tipping Point
Good to Great
Love is the Killer App..
Now discover your strengths.

What are your favorite websites/blogs?
Tom Peters, Google, Gmail, Bloglines, Apple

What tools/technology do you use?
15' Apple Powerbook, Blackberry, iPod, Firefox, Gmail, etc, etc.

What's your favorite quote?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:13

What is your secret to success?
Default=Christ. Drive, dedication to excellence, being a love cat, and being humble. Oh yea, I realize that I am not that great, so I surround myself by people that are much more talented than myself.

What are your greatest accomplishments? Personal and Professional?
Marring my wonderful wife that is so out of my league!
Professional...I don't know. The more you get to know me, the more you will realize that I hate talking about myself. This is a grueling exercise and I am glad that it is almost over. Way to much about me going on here...

What are you hobbies? Or, how do you break the monotony and stay energized?
Golf, blogging, playing with my girls, spending time with my wife, and reading.
