Hebrews 8 - New

Hebrews 8 - New

Remember when you got that new car or new to you car? Maybe it was the new living room chair or your new phone. I can remember each of these, and they all had one thing in common. Once the new thing came into my possession, the old was obsolete. In the same way, but in a much more significant manner, this is what Hebrews 8 is all about. So much so, that is precisely what the closing verse tells us;

“By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.” - ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus, the high priest, made what came before obsolete, outdated, and irrelevant. The previous law convicted us, Jesus saves us. The former law was written on stone tablets; the new is woven into our hearts by our creator God.

“This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” - ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭8:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus has made a new way; He is the new way...Jesus made all things new.

“He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” - ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭21:5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus, making all things new is our peace, He brings all things together and tore down walls and division. We are ONE in Christ Jesus!

“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.” - ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:14-17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Whatever is in your past, whatever you are carrying from yesterday or last week, year or decade is gone! Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past; Jesus is doing a new thing.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” - ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43:18-19‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Guild, shame, unforgiveness, sorrow, anger, hostility, whatever you are carrying today can be washed away at this very moment. Jesus is our peace. Jesus has something NEW for you today. Jesus is ready to take you from the wasteland and wilderness to the lush and glorious mountaintops. You are forgiven, you are loved, you are whole and complete in Jesus. Step in and receive this promise today. Today is a new day.
