Hebrews 9 - Gratitude

Hebrews 9 - Gratitude

Ever feel like you are hearing the same story over and over. Well, that’s kind of how I am feeling right now in Hebrews 9. I feel like I am hearing the same messaging again, and again. I have to think the repetition, and the beating of this drum is on purpose for the receivers of this message to make sure they understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

Hebrews 9 walks through the tabernacle, and how the priests and high priests walk through it, and how the Most Holy Place was entered. This was driving home the point that in the “old” way, only the high priest could enter the holiest of holy. But, Jesus tore down those walls! There are no more blood sacrifices needed, not more ceremonies, no more mediators required.

“For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.” - ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

On the one hand, I am hoping as I move through Hebrews, the author shifts the focus, and we get into some other focus. I get it, I understand who Jesus is, what he has done, and the old is gone, and the new is here. Check. But, on the other hand, the message of this hope, the message of who Jesus is the fact that Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many, is a critical part of the Gospel. This messaging over and over needs to bring me to a posture of gratitude. God, I am so grateful. God, I am humbled by your love and your generosity. Your abundance is overwhelming. May I live a life of gratitude and abundance because of Jesus.
