Acts 13 - Set Free

Acts 13 - Set Free

This morning I am a bit distracted. I can not shake a few conversations that I have had over the past days, and my mind is locked, and my Spirit is pulling me towards a dear friend of mine who is struggling right now. Everything that I am reading this morning, I am thinking about this person, my lens into these words is very much shaded with this situation. So, I am not seeing clearly, but in another way, I am seeing clearly what God desires me to see.

On that note, how we see our circumstances is essential. What lens we are looking through, and what voices we are allowing to enter our minds. Are we listening to the truth of God’s word, the truth about who we are in Christ, and whose we are? Or, are we going to listen to what Satan speaks into our minds? Our enemy is crafty and cunning. I have come to realize and believe in my core that Satan, our enemy works through the art of confusion. He will mix up our message, and he will distort the truth and try and trap us in our thoughts and attempt to bury us with lies.

We run hard into the truth in the middle of chapter 13, Saul, who, for the most part, transitioned into being called Paul, delivered a powerful sermon. The entire message of the Bible delivered into just a few short verses.

“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you: “ ‘Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe, even if someone told you.’ ” - ‭‭Acts‬ ‭13:38-41‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Freedom in Christ Jesus is ours for the taking. Freedom from our sin, bondage, and the law. This Gospel message is not just for a free ticket to heaven, this Gospel is transforming and life-changing to us today! I deeply desire this Gospel, this good news to penetrate the heart of my dear friend and so many others who follow Christ but are caught in some type of bondage. I know this so well, because I have been in this very spot more times that I would like to admit. Satan has nearly taking me out, multiple times in my life with this very tactic.

But check this out, we read in just a few verses before this, King David had died, and he was buried, and his body decayed. In some ways, this is very symbolic, allowing our body to die to things of this world, and in Christ, we can walk in freedom. Death often is the only way to produce life...fully shedding our earthly bodies, dying to the things of this world, and then being raised a new person in Christ.

May these words penetrate our soul today, for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe! God stands ready and is working out a new, and good work that you will never believe. It’s time to embrace the full Gospel, allow it to penetrate every ounce of your being, and be set free.
